role/part: performer, dancer Macbeth/ Lady Macbeth (whole ensemble performing all parts)
Macbeth (1606) is one of the most violent depictions of greed for power in dramatic literature. Shakespeare’s tragedy of the Macbeths who will stop at nothing to seize the crown is captivating in its poignancy and timelessness.
Tero Saarinen and Otso Kautto’s previous Shakespeare spectacle Hamlet the Rock Musical at the TTT Theatre raised the power of drama to a new level with its strong physical expression. Now, the directors have switched roles: Saarinen is responsible for the wider picture and movement, Kautto for the text. In the seamless patchwork created by the dancers, actors and juggler, everyone is both an action and a consequence. Michael Baran’s new austere translation sets the scene for the unravelling of this chilling tale. Mikki Kunttu’s stage lighting design, Samu-Jussi Koski’s costumes and Marko Nyberg’s music transport this bloodstained classic to the present time.
The presentation contains strong flashing lights.
